Usb Power Saving Options

If you want to enable windows vista to turn off the usb root hub when the computer is running on battery power click enabled in the on battery list.

Under the selected power plan click change plan settings. Click change advanced power settings. Expand the universal serial bus controllers branch then double click the usb root hub device and choose the power management tab. Click the start button and type edit power plan in the windows search box.

Or check it to let windows turn off usb ports to save power. For the notebook computer in our example there is only a balanced setting. Click the power management tab. If you want usb ports to keep supplying power in sleep mode just uncheck allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

If you are using a laptop computer this feature may help if you do not want usb powered devices to draw off the computer s battery while the devices are not actively being used. Right click on the usb root hub you want to change and then click on properties to open the usb port s properties dialog box. Click change advanced power settings then scroll down to usb settings and click the little plus next to usb selective suspend setting to expand the options. Choose your desired settings using the checkboxes and then click on ok to save these settings.

In the power options dialog box expand usb settings and then expand usb selective suspend setting. Depending on your computer you may see several preset plan settings balanced power saving performance etc. Under the power management tab you will see the option for restricting power to the usb port to save battery power. Turn off the allow the computer to turn off this device to save power by unchecking the box then click the ok button.

How to disable usb selective suspend. Set both the on battery and plugged in settings to disabled then click ok to apply changes.
